Restoration & Conservation
Market Cross, Chichester, West Sussex
We were delighted to be involved in such a prestigious heritage conservation project situated in the centre of the historic city of Chichester.
In collaboration with Chichester District Council and Richard Glover, we surveyed the structure and came up with a sensitive schedule of works for Historic England approval.
Our skilled team of specialists ranging from stonemasons, architectural metalworkers, sign writers and clock restorers worked with Historic England to ensure the overall appearance was not damaged and the structure would last for many years to come.
The works included a sensitive steam clean to remove the lichen build up, repointing and lime mortar repairs to the Caen and Clipsham stone structure. Redecoration and repairs of the four clock faces and the weather vane were also undertaken.
The project gained so much interest from the public that it was decided by the council to put it forward for the Sussex Heritage Awards. The project was highly commended.
